Big Rock Library offers annual library cards at a very reasonable cost.
Because the Big Rock Historical Society is the library’s governing body, we are considered a “special” library. That means we are not tax-supported like public libraries are and we can’t offer “free” cards.
To obtain a library card, bring identification with payment as cash or check payable to Big Rock Historical Society.
Your library card is good for admission or special discounts at participating Chicago area cultural destinations. Use your library card to obtain one pass per week per household.
The visitor will find a variety of Natural History and Native American displays in the upper floor of the library.
Big Rock Library acknowledges the Native Americans who inhabited this property before the 1830s. We respect and honor that heritage with displays of Native American artifacts and programming about the Native community.

- It’s Halloween on the Library’s Front Porch
Creator Steven Rusch has installed some creepy Halloween scarecrows on the library’s front porch. You may view them at 40 mph as you drive by the library or come sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch for full effect. Steven likes natural objects, and if you look closely, you’ll see a deer skull as the head of one of the scarecrows, and deer bones are incorporated into another.
Steven has a passion for creating displays and contributed greatly to the Bison display currently on the upper floor of the library. He lives in Downers Grove and travels to Big Rock with his artwork. We are thankful for a volunteer (and his dad) who is willing to travel that distance.

While attending Plowing Match, don’t forget to visit the Big Rock Library’s Big Book Sale! Lots of titles to choose from and you won’t beat the prices! Hardcover – $1.00, paperback- 50 cents, mass market paperbacks- 25 cents. Kids’ books are also 25 cents. Audiobooks & DVDs- 50 cents. CDs -25 cents. Jigsaw puzzles- 50 cents-$1.00. Look for the tent behind the library; we also have more books in the basement sale room. Come over and browse!
